Abstract
Objectives: This study investigated the influence of related factors including somatic symptoms and depression on sexual function in elderly men.

Methods: Two hundred one elderly men (over 60 year-old) at Daegu and Gyeongbuk district participated in this study. All the participants performed the patient health questionnaire (PHQ)-15, instrumental activities of daily living (IADL), Korean form of geriatric depression scale (K-GDS), and international index of erectile function (IIEF). The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t tests, one-way ANOVA, and multiple regression.

Results: In univariate analysis, there were significant differences of somatic symptoms, IADL and depression according to age, education level, perceived health and economic status, and family satisfaction. The mean difference of sexual function was statistically significant by socio-demographic characteristics. Multiple regression analysis revealed significant associations between somatic symptoms and sexual function after adjusting for socio-demographic characteristics.

Conclusions: Somatic symptoms including age and perceived health status should be considered the major factors to improve sexual function in elderly men.
